About Sofia

Sofia is located in Bulgaria, in the Balkan region in Eastern Europe. Rent prices are very low for European standards.

Medicial University of Sofia

 

Since 2007-2008, Sofia University has a foreign language department (in English) for the Medical and Pharmaceutical School.
The language of instruction is English, and since the entrance of Bulgaria into the European Union the degrees are equivalent to the ones obtained in other European countries.
Studies in the English language are recognized by the Bulgarian government.

Medical University of Sofia

The Medical Faculty of Sofia University is the oldest medical school in Bulgaria. The first courses began in April 1918.
Today the School of Medicine has 47 departments and clinics, and about 1300 professors. The level of education is constantly being upgraded and modernized by advanced materials, constantly adjusting to new medical data. So far 35000 doctors have graduated from the University.
Studies in Medicine at the University of Sofia are equivalent to any European university. The University puts an emphasis in research and has partnerships with international research institutions.

The medical studies last 6 years.

The tuition fee is 8000 EUR per year, paid in two installments

Several documents are required for registration.


All documents must be officially translated into the Bulgarian language from the translation department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Universal takes care of the process of translating the documents. After the approval of the documents, prospective students are required to take exams.

Universal has a list of tests that help students prepare for the exams, and these can be sent to students upon request.

Pharmacy in Sofia

The School of Pharmacy was founded in 1942 and merged with the Faculty of Medical Studies (Medical Academy) in 1951. In 1995, it became independent from the Medical School. Studies at the University are in line with European Union directives.

The school is located behind the Cathedral in the city centre.
The School has 3 auditoriums, 9 seminar rooms and 42 laboratories equipped with modern equipment. It also has modern computer facilities and access to the Internet. There are currently 29 Professors at the School of Pharmacy. Throughout the years, more than 1500 students have been trained at the Department, over 500 of which were from countries other than Bulgaria.

Information
The course lasts 5 years and the last year includes practical training in pharmacies or hospitals.
The total hours spent on lectures are 1515 and in labs 2910.
During their studies, students must successfully pass 39 courses. At the end of their studies they may sit state examinations, or submit a thesis.
The tuition fees are 6000 EUR per year.
Classes begin during the last week of October and documents should be sent by mid-September.
